Accession to the EU brought rapid changes directly linked to the principles of the common market, i.e. the free movement of goods, people, and capital. After the accession, a phase of strong economic growth driven by export industries began. The linkage with foreign countries was also reinforced by significant inflows of foreign direct investment.
